What do you do when wrong thoughts come to your mind?🤔🤔
This is a question that almost every Christian asks. Its something that happens whether you are born again or not. The only difference is the rate at which wrong thoughts pops up to each one (born again or not).
The whole point is, being born again doesn’t stop you from being tempted. Of course, the devil has made it a point to tempt and lure you. So its your responsibility to also make sure you do not yield to his temptation. One thing is certain; God always opens a way of escape whenever we are being tempted(1 Corinthians 10:13). Or He grants us the strength to overcome it depending on each situation we find ourselves in.
With all that has been said, the question still remains unanswered. The question of ways to overcome wrong thoughts or ideas that keeps bothering us.
Now, when wrong thoughts come to your mind and you really want to overcome it, you must:
1. Remember and know that you are a new creation.
Yes you are. A new Creation and that’s what you must always know and bare in mind. All the temptations or wrong ideas are outside forces thrown to you by the devil. Its not something you just wake up to manufacture in your mind. Especially if you claim that you are born again. When you read the book of 1 Corinthians 2:16, bible lets us know that, we the born again believers have the mind of Christ. Know this, “For the Spirit of Christ, which is our teacher, knows the mind of God and reveals it unto us -His children”. And leads us to all truths.
That’s why you must remember who you are and believe in the new life made available for you to overcome dirty, unwanted thoughts and temptations.
2. Be A Doer Not a hearer; Act the Word!
It is the wish of God for all of us to be the doers of His word not just hearers (James 1:22-24). And its actually for our sake and not His. Cos whether or not we obey Him, He is still God. And will keep being God all by Himself. We are nothing without Him and He will still be that same God even if we turn away from Him.
How then do you become a doer of the word? You become a doer of the word when you remember the word and act accordingly. Thank God we even have a helper who helps us remember the word; the holy spirit.
So all we have to do is to just act on it. And be ready to obey.
3.Walk in Obedience
We must love and obey God. He is just so good to us in all circumstances. Sometimes, when we are pressured to take the wrong steps in life, we have to remember we are born again and have the courage to shrug it off. Its still true wrong thoughts will come to you when you are born again. Just make sure not to allow those wrong thoughts take hold of you. I have heard that you can’t stop birds from flying over your head. But you can surely stop them from building a nest there.
Because these thoughts are outside forces, you may not be able to stop them. But you sure can prevent them from lodging within you. Stop them by thinking on the right things instead and feeding yourself with the wrong information. Don’t let them gain dominion over you! Train yourself with the godly character traits from the word of God.
And always remember you are born again and have the nature of God.
4.Remember Sin shall have no dominion over you.
Unless you allow wrong thoughts, they won’t have the power to gain the mastery over you.
Know that sin can not gain lordship or have the upper hand over you. (ROM 6:14). You know why? Because you are not living under the law but under the grace made available to us by Christ.
So even though you are in the realm of sin, you are also in the realm of God’s life which supersedes sin. That’s why you don’t have to feel rejected or condemned when you are in Christ Jesus. Colossians 1:14.
We don’t try to have. We already have it. And we must retain this consciousness of the Word always.
Woow…i hope i have been of help to you. Feel free to comment below in other to let me know your view on this post.
